Upstart not only came before systemd but is the init system of the still supported RHEL 6. I am not qualified to judge which one is better but let's agree on the facts.
As far as the marketing goes, it is a larger trend. See Fedora Workstation/Server, elementaryOS. In fact, on the CentOS homepage there is nary a mention of Linux.
- Daviey 10y agoNot only that.. but Lennart was working on Upstart.. committed to working on some items.. Came back, and said - "Surprise, i've made systemd instead".. which is a bit of a kick when you are depending on him to do the features he said he'd do.
- Crespyl 10y agoWhen you put it like that, it sort of reminds me of how Mir came about. Maybe that's unfair.
