So true. When someone new moved into the neighborhood, my Dad used to always go over and attempt to borrow a simple hand tool. Keep in mind, (at that point) my father had been a mechanic in the Marines, a butcher and chef for over 20 years, and a serious cabinet-maker for over a decade. He already had every tool he needed. His purpose was to "ask a favor" to simply start-up a conversation and a relationship. It's amazing what you can establish by simply asking a stranger for "a small favor".
