Do people actually say "fuck you" when they get FU money? Not really. They are usually saying something like:
I'm going to spend more time with family.
I'm going to travel.
I just quit.
Once someone has passed the point where they aren't having fun, if they have FU money, they will just stop caring so much, why bother getting angry?
- tenpies 10y agoThis clip from the Gambler summed it up pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdfeXqHFmPI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdfeXqHFmPI (NSFW language) It's more about personal independence than anything and being able to take risks.

- cableshaft 10y agoThanks for the clip. I want to see that movie now. Would you recommend it?
- tenpies 10y agoI would, but it's definitely not a universally appealing film. It's very similar to something like the Weather Man[1] where there is a plot, but the real point of the film is to witness a character going through a particular point in their life. --- [1] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384680/?ref_=nv_sr_1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384680/?ref_=nv_sr_1
- afpx 10y agoFuck you money is great. I love having it, and I wear it as a badge of honor, like a proud asshole. What it gives me is leverage. I am your average, software engineering looking dude. I'm not very aggressive or overly eager. But, I'm always a top performer and a good teammate. I'm always thinking of new concepts and better ways, and I'm actually relatively good at executing. Overall, I'm always interested in the successs of the company and the product. Otherwise, I wouldn't be working there. But, having fuck you money allows me to grab the executives (and even the board) by the balls once in a while simply because I can walk away without a second thought. And, it's only then do they realize that I'm not some low-class blue collar worker. It's very nice. And, as long as I share the rewards with my teammates, we all work better anyway.
- iced0wn 10y agoBeing proud of boardroom blackmail is about as low on the totem pole as it gets. Those guys def lol at you behind your back. Like, you stick it to the man, dude! Being a good performer just indicates your cog dimensions, not your cofactor of scale. If you had a clue about what fuck you money is, you wouldn't even bring collars to the table.
- siberianbear 10y agoI made a "fuck you" amount of money being an early employee of a Silicon Valley company. One day I just said I was quitting to go travel. I was very polite. My history there was long and I was consistently ranked high in my performance reviews, so they said they understood and told me to get in touch if I needed a job again. I didn't need a job again, so I didn't call them. I still go by this company and have lunch with some of my friends there when I am in the area. The company treated me well and I treated them well. Why burn bridges? He who shits on the road will meet flies upon his return.
