Years ago, I was told by an executive at a company that I did some consulting for that it cost them the equivalent of seven years of an employee's annual salary to fire someone if the employee was working in their French subsidiary. I suspected that there was some hyperbole in that claim, but perhaps a HN reader knows just how costly it is to fire an employee in France, for example.
