All the wonderful presentation done by Jobs then is nowhere to be seen these days. I used to stay awake to watch it live from 2AM but I only read the reports later these days.
Cook keeps cutting everything but the most profitable departments just to make the numbers look good when Apple was about this unified experience on various aspects of what makes up as a digital life.
Your assumption is like praising a movie doing really well because the prior installment did excellent and people expect the same until they realize it isn't what it was.
- marricks 10y agoI think the space to innovate might not be smaller now, but it's less ripe for big dsiruptions until VR or something else can start grabbing marketshare. Phones and laptops are pretty stable. Apple is trying to get into at least one exciting field, self driving cars. Supposedly AR/VR too. Maybe others. They've also released some pretty solid wireless earbuds last year. Sure, it's not the next iPhone, but honestly no one else has yet either in the past five years.

What new high-tech consumer products with wide enough appeal are there left to design around? iToothBrush? iBathroomMirror? iBathroomscale, looks great! but everyone just slides it under their bathroom counter and forgets about it anyway. Should Apple start making IoT knockoff gadgets just to peddle more kit? Is that what Jobs would have done? Apple is most successful when it peddles a small pool of top-notch tech products that fit with the current lifestyle of tech users of varying skills. Most recently was productivity on the go; the best laptops and mobile gadgets. What new lifestyle trends are emerging that they can design a truly valuable tech tool for? Maybe above all, we're just seeing Apple for what they really are: commodity PC vendor with a higher standards for fit and finish than the rest.
