That game is a time hole. I have literally sat down for a play session at 9pm and stood up at 2am, having no idea what happened. If you like circuit design, refactoring code, or thinking about graph problems, I can't think of a better experience.
- goda90 10y agoI rarely realize how late it is until my wife comes to demand I go to bed at 2 or 3 am. If deadlines and process at work stop you from refactoring all the code that bothers you, then Factorio will scratch that itch really well.
- clay_to_n 10y agoIt's such a dangerous game. After I beat it once I installed Bob's Mods, which makes it take about 10x as long to get to the end. Very worth it if you enjoyed the base game. (just more complexity every step of the way... 12 different resource types - you want circuit boards? Well instead of being copper wire + iron plate, you're going to need to make resistors and solder first...)
- jcranmer 10y agoAnd then there's Angel's mods... which adds Bob's Mods-style complexity just to get the base ores, and also adds similar complexity for all of your oil needs.
- ouid 10y agoFor anyone who feels like they can invest 5 hours, so it should be safe, I will say that it is not uncommon to hear stories of people playing for the entire time that they are awake, and I have a few of my own.
