Rimworld is great. The interface always kept me away from DF, but I had some good times with Rimworld even though it's significantly less complex (no Z-levels, for instance). The first time I played it, I ended up with a Donner party-esque situation in which my medicine had run out, everyone was dying from infected wounds inflicted by raider attacks, and the few colonists still on their feet were fully occupied feeding the spoiled remains of the dead to the barely-living. Colonists were dying faster than the survivors could dig graves for them. It was brutal.
