I can see the concern if they're putting stuff in there that actually screws up your machine, but if you're just plotting world overthrow or something, well, maybe it's a good thing they're in there.

- jjtheblunt 10y agoDo people worship snowden BECAUSE they never bothered to learn what NSA's charter is, and that almost everything snowden cites was published in the open years before? Cf James Bamford for example.
- devopsproject 10y agoPerson A: I saw aliens at area 51 you can read about it in my latest book. Person B: Here are 25,000 documents from Area 51 that prove the existence of aliens. Who gets the most credit\fame\whatever?
- equalunique 10y agoWhat if organized crime infiltrated the NSA? Then it would not be just the NSA, but also organized crime, who benefits from mass surveillance.
- jjtheblunt 10y agototally agree: well said
- devwastaken 10y agoA civics course would yield a very good concept of why its bad: Precedent. Balance and checks. The problem is not that individuals have 'bad stuff' on their PC's, its that any and all personal information can be used against you, and if there is a precedent to use that information freely against you without courts or warrants, then where is the balance and checks? If police could walk into your house, open your filing cabinets and take all your documents, where is the check of power? Many times we like to think we live in a fantasy world where the 'police' or 'authorities' are the best people who are only out for 'good', but the reality is far from. At the end of the day, they are people, people are flawed, people abuse power, as the Snowden report showed, which is why checks and balances are required. You can make the false claim that you have 'nothing to hide', but you do, the same as everyone else. Social security number, marriage and divorce papers, loans, conversations with business partners, stock investments, documents of employees and their personal info. Trade agreements, your companies internal infrastructure. Thats all very, very important stuff you would not want people to get their hands on, and if they did could take advantage of you, your family, the people who work for you, or the people you work for.
