I believe producers of content should be able to reap rewards for that production. Can't speak for most 'pirates,' but I only engage in piracy when rightsholders refuse to license their content to me on a timely basis and in an unencumbered format. As the success of iTunes has demonstrated, most people will pay reasonable amounts for licensed content as long as rightsholders make it available conveniently.
