Increasing H-1B pay would be a step in the right direction but I think the green card policy is the biggest thing that needs to be fixed. H-1B workers should be fast tracked for green cards instead of having road blocks put in front of them. By definition they are skilled workers that the US doesn't have enough of so why would we ever want them to leave?
- convolvatron 10y agoidk, if you have an underclass thats forced to work for you for substandard wages due to externalities, that seems worth hanging on to. i think the most dangerous ideas distorting the software market is the fiction that every team is the best that was ever fielded, and that development takes such unique skills. you're hiring a web dev - stop turning people down because they aren't Guy Steele.
