I am not disputing Nehruvian policies. I consider him an amazing visionary, unlike many other people. He had the guts to lay the foundation of a modern secular democracy instead of succumbing to divisions of Indian society. It was impossible to know in 1950 what will work and what won't. And at that Socialism was a model that was still being tried out in various countries. His vision had several pillars that, as you rightly laid out, have benefited India in the long run. And without the population jump from 300M to 1bn in 50 years, things would have slightly better. Fault mostly lies in future generation of leaders who didn't recognize the disadvantages of continuing this policies and failed to adapt.
