"America is for Americans" ironically sounds extremely un-American to me. Isn't this on the statue of liberty? “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” I think accepting the downtrodden and giving alms are (were?) core values of America - but maybe the problem is that we didn't focus enough internally and were left with a lot of people next door getting left behind.
