If a bunch of people delete the uber app, and the CEO takes positive action, then I think we should reward good behavior and consider reinstalling it.
- alextheparrot 10y agoCould you clarify why you would consider? I started using Lyft after the taxi situation in NY (At the request of some immigrant friends) and have noticed absolutely no reason to switch back to Uber. The price is on par, the service is on par, the app in general is on par (In San Francisco, where I use ride-sharing around ~5-10 times a week). I guess I don't see a reason to switch back, which I'm hoping you can clarify?
- yummyfajitas 10y agoI favor Uber because Uber is pushing the world forward. Uber regularly engages in civil disobedience and political actions (at significant cost to themselves) that are necessary to defeat the entrenched powers. Lyft and the others are free-riding on Uber's work. They wait for Uber to fix the world then they try to make money in that new, better world.
- staticautomatic 10y agoI question whether it's genuinely possible for a corporation to engage in civil disobedience, even insofar as the government considers corporations to be the same as people in certain circumstances.
- yummyfajitas 10y agoIf you prefer, it's the humans behind Uber who are engaging in civil disobedience. I prefer to support these humans. The corporate person is just a simpler way to speak about the same topic.
- ubernostrum 10y agoAh yes, civil disobedience like testing out their self-driving vehicle -- which can't recognize red lights and doesn't understand bicycle lanes -- in a dense urban area, in noble and glorious disobedience to the parasitic leeching government communist over-regulators who'd prefer they get it closer to, y'know, safe before unleashing it in a place where there are lots of squishy meatbags it could kill.
- Tycho 10y agoI agree, although I wonder how Uber is going to survive/thrive as a business. I sometimes wonder if their research into algorithmic dispatching and now self-driving cars are just a song & dance to distract investors. They create new markets but there is a fundamental lack of entry barriers to protect their market share. If what I am saying is correct, then not only is Uber pushing the world forward, but its investors are engaged in a noble transfer of wealth from the rich to the rest, for the benefit of society.
