You're proving his point. "He's just a fascist, so everything he says should be immediately ignored and disregarded." That's not having a conversation. That isn't talking anymore. I know you 100% believe he is a fascist, and history may look back on you and say "man that guy is so right" but the 45.9% of voters disagree with you. Calling them supporters of a fascist regime isn't going to change their mind, hell it seems to strengthen it.
His point was we need to have conversations and real moderate intelligent people surrounding someone like Trump. You push those people away by calling them nazis and the only thing you're doing is leaving a gap for people who don't care if you call them nazis....you know...like actual nazis.
- mcphage 10y agoDo you think people voted for Trump because they wanted a conversation? Is there anything in his leadership style which leads you to believe he or his voters are interested in coming to the table for a discussion?
- grzm 10y agoI've heard many express that many voted for Trump because they felt they weren't being heard. A large part of the problem in my opinion is that conversations aren't being had. Even if people are reluctant or not willing to have engage right now I think we all need to be willing to and attempt to talk with each other.
- true_religion 10y agoI was a voter---and I wont' say which way---and I'd like to have a conversation but I am afraid that if I express any views then this will happen: 1. I will be called a member of a neo-fascist party 2. People will say that I am a racist, sexist, bigot. 3. I will be fired from my job because I no longer fit the "company culture". 4. People will see me at a public workspace, and move away from me, and refuse to partner with me. Eventually I will be asked to leave because I am making people uncomfortable with my mere presence. 5. My acquaintances will shun me, and speak about me in whispers of "I didn't know he/she was like that..." This is why I do not speak. I simply cast my vote, and move on.
- mcphage 10y agoVoting is a political action, wherein you express your preference for what you want the future of the country to look like. Why do you think you shouldn't be held accountable for your actions? If you're of voting age, you're not a child anymore. As an adult, you act, and are responsible and accountable for those actions. Furthermore, if what you want the country to be like is something that others find distasteful, why do you believe that others shouldn't act on that? It's not like like we're talking about the difference between chocolate or vanilla ice cream. You were asked if you wanted a stable government or... whatever it is we have right now. Why don't you believe that would reflect upon who you are, and how others view you?
- vorotato 10y agoI had a coworker admit he was a Trump supporter, and most of those things haven't happened. However this coworker doesn't actually HAVE sexist, racist and bigoted opinions. The coworker expressed distaste in Trump's immigrant ban, but still believed that he would help the economy. I think this coworker is wrong, however I don't think they are a racist/sexist/bigot. I do think they are a follower of a neo-facist party, but I do not think they themselves are facist. He does make people uncomfortable sometimes, but not because of his political views, and yeah sometimes people do go, "He's a trump supporter?", but they get over it.
- zimpenfish 10y ago> People will say that I am a racist, sexist, bigot. If you voted for Trump, yes, they will because you voted for someone who is all of those things - you were perfectly ok with his behaviour on those axes.
- dllthomas 10y agoVoting for Trump would indicate that they are sufficiently okay with his behavior. Nothing has established that they were perfectly okay with it.

- vorotato 10y agoIt's important to be mindful that 46% of voters is around 28% of eligible voters, and 20% of the overall US population. Obviously the same is true + or - a few percent for Hillary, so really unpopular presidential picks this year. Either way people weren't going to be super happy, but Trump is making absolutely no efforts to appeal to even moderate republicans.
