- danieltillett 10y agoI wish this experiment was close to real life. I can of course only speak for myself, but for me when faced with huge demands on self-will with work, self-will over food fails.
- nicky0 10y agoBut from personal experience, it is a very real thing. I'm a little suspicious of any paper "debunking" something I experience on a regular basis.
- kranner 10y agoI also experience it as a very real thing. But it could be a learned/placebo effect. Maybe it improves with practice and we just haven't tried?
- danieltillett 10y agoOr it could just not be a very good proxy for what happens in real life. Very few physiology experiments run for months at a time while placing the subjects under extreme will-power stress.
- kranner 10y agoI agree that can happen. But I still have trouble viewing willpower as a constant resource (refreshed daily) over a person's lifespan. There must be a correlation with anxiety/stress and possibly exercise, among other factors.
