Just do it. Can you save up $5k? Then you can live for a year in some parts of the world and work remotely :-). If you fail, you would have traveled at least.

- flaviuspopan 10y ago$5K seems immensely optimistic for a year, even if you exclude airfare. Do you have any links/blogs where people were able to pull that off?
- DebasishPanda 10y agoYes one can live with US $5k in a small city in India for a year, but not including the air fair to get here.
- chris_7 10y agoCan you really live in India for a year without getting in trouble? (assuming you're not an Indian citizen) i.e. Schengen is 90/180 days
- redmaple 10y agounless you're planning on living near poverty levels, to recreate US lifestyle in India you will need min. $1k/month (INR 70k).
- rtcoms 10y agoI live in Bangalore spending Rs 20k a month. I live in 1 BHK with my wife and give Rs 10k in rent. Other expanses are around 10k or less. One can have lavish lifestyle in Rs. 70k per month. If you see yearly expanses , It will come at around $5000 , equivalent to Rs 350000
- silentcylon 10y ago$5k may be a bit optimistic, I would calculate your costs now in your part of the world. I know that I burned more than that in my first year. I think if you start by lining up some jobs that can sustain you before you quit then you will burn less. Take your time if you want to travel and work. Currently I want to travel a good amount and am still cautious about the timing with my contracts that I have now. Remember work up to travel and make sure you are in a good place contracting wise before you take on a whole new lifestyle. I love to travel and think it can be wonders for developers, just be careful early on.
