- araneae 16y agoAccording to one of my profs, something like 80% of programmers are INTJ in the Meyer's Briggs scheme... the I stands for introvert. I don't know what the other 20% looks like but there are probably a lot of I types.
- tokenadult 16y agoAccording to one of my profs, something like 80% of programmers are INTJ in the Meyer's Briggs scheme. I hope your professor is aware that the Myers-Briggs scheme http://www.skepdic.com/myersb.html http://www.skepdic.com/myersb.html http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0684830914/ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0684830914/ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0743243560/ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0743243560/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator#Criticism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator#Cri... http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/328/7450/1244 http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/328/7450/1244 has never been validated. http://epublications.bond.edu.au/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1026&context=hss_pubs http://epublications.bond.edu.au/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article... http://www.indiana.edu/~jobtalk/HRMWebsite/hrm/articles/develop/mbti.pdf http://www.indiana.edu/~jobtalk/HRMWebsite/hrm/articles/deve... http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/328/7450/1244 http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/328/7450/1244 Moreover, I would ask for a citation to show that anyone has gathered data from a properly representative sample of "programmers" (how was that group defined?) to show the personality characteristics found in the sample on a validated instrument. Statements of this kind are often based on inadequately small samples and may also suffer from ascertainment bias. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_bias http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_bias
- cracki 16y agoa question about your sentence structure. why did you write "i wonder what is ..." instead of "i wonder what ... is." did you mean to write "i wonder: what is..."? where are you from? the structure you used common there?
- Yaggo 16y agoFrom Finland. Non-native English speaker as one can guess. Thanks for correcting me. We have crazy grammar rules in Finland, such as starting sentences with capitals.
- cracki 16y agoi'm just curious because i heard the exact same structure used by a native speaker from the US, and on other occasions from other possibly native speakers. i speak english as a second language and don't know what to think. as to my lack of caps... that's lazyness. i can use them, but i only do when i foresee getting judged by people i don't need judging from (professional contexts).
- a-priori 16y agoAccording to the analysis I posted to a Myers-Briggs survey that appeared here this summer, about 75% of Hacker News is introverted according to that test. The INTJ and INTP types alone account for 60% of those surveyed (compared to 6.4% in the general population). http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=946249 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=946249
- j_baker 16y agoI'd argue that HN is a biased sample even among programmers though.
