I've seen enough comments about using floats for layout that I think some people need to read the article. The example in the article is not using float for layout. It is using it for the original purpose, floating an element to the side for other elements to flow around. The problem shown is when the floated element is taller than the resulting containing parent. Which is a common problem and a valid use of float.
