If that's all the government funded, then taxes would be very low indeed.

But it's not "some" is it? It's over 50% in places.
- vannevar 10y agoTaxes also go to things like healthcare, because most of us recognize that living in a world where having people dying in the street is sub-optimal. And most people who are in a 50+% bracket are still getting a bargain, because their personal effort and skill contribute much less than 50% of their income.
