I've wasted much of my life learning things that don't have lasting value. Like, what's the fastest cpu, what's the fastest hard drive, etc. I've also wasted much of my life learning about things I will never use. The curiosity and addiction to learning has crippled my productivity for most of my life.
I think the problem of learning instead of doing is better than lots of other procratinations, however, it's still a problem the same. The brain is easily tricked into thinking that learning is productive, when in reality, its pseudo-productive.
Effectiveness in the real world need be the ratcheting effect of learn, do, learn do. Just as climbing stairs is left, right, left, right. Making the ratchet click is sometimes quite hard. It took me years to fix it, and it's always a threat.
