For architecture I prefer to just ask for input on an actual issue my org is currently facing. Perhaps abstracted a bit to make answering less of a slog through details but I don't see any advantage to using some made up scenario. By using current issue I'm in both a good position to interact on the subject since its top of mind and get a sense for the relevance of the candidate's experience and/or their creativity. Also means I don't need any better rubric for evaluating their answer than "if I'd heard that in a meeting today would I have thought 'oh there's a good idea...'"
