I agree. And personally, I find a big gap between what concerns "the media" and the people around me. Among my 400 facebook friends, I've gotten 2 or 3 status updates concerned with new privacy rules. Meanwhile on hacker news I see a dozen of articles in a day about it
- MicahWedemeyer 16y agoTotally agree here. Most average people just dont care.
- hugh3 16y agoSelection bias? People concerned with facebook privacy aren't making status updates any more?
- electromagnetic 16y agoIf the people concerned with privacy issues leave the service, doesn't it inherently resolve the issue?
- hugh3 16y agoFor them, yes. For Joe Whoops-I-Didn't-Want-My-Mother-To-Know-I-Was-Gay perhaps not.
- yaroslavvb 16y agoMaybe...also the fact that I have 400 "friends" says something. You can't possibly know that many people well enough to trust them. And the fact that they accepted my friend requests means they didn't care about keeping their information secret in a first place. Maybe it's different for an average user (120 connections apparently), although that still seems too high to share sensitive information.
