This article just shows that the company had a really bad hiring process.
I think this also shows why on-site technical interviews are so important.
In my 2 years or so of taking interviews it took me 10-15 minutes to see whether someone was competent enough to write code.
On the plus side, on-site interviews also help you in determining whether the candidate will be a good cultural fit or not
- at-fates-hands 10y agoEven just looking at the github repos would've revealed what he did. If there's one thing I know, it's that most devs have a distinct style when they code. This is especially true with JS. I'm sure taking a cursory look at "Bryan's" code would have revealed it probably wasn't something he wrote himself since the copy/paste mode would reveal totally different coding styles.
