What you are saying the reason behind Arthur C Clarke emigrated to Sri Lanka was wrong. He emigrated to Sri Lanka in 1956 mainly to scuba diving. You did not mention references related to that period.
- linuxkerneldev 10y ago> He emigrated to Sri Lanka in 1956 mainly to scuba diving. You did not mention references related to that period. I did not see any reference saying he emigrated because of wanting to scuba dive. I also find that to be unconvincing. Many paedophiles use such activities as covers. The other common cover is missionary or religious work.
- irusri 10y agoPlease go and read Wikipedia about Arthur C. Clarke without categorising countries into good or bad. What you are saying is not connected to smart scientist like Arthur C. Clarke. No matter where he lives he can do his work. Edit: You are misleading everyone here in this forum. Please read third paragraph https://en.org/wiki/Arthur_C._Clarke https://en.org/wiki/Arthur_C._Clarke Then You will find why he emigrated to Sri Lanka. There are good and bad things in every country. He enjoyed his late life in Sri Lanka with rich culture and amazing climate.
- linuxkerneldev 10y ago> What you are saying is not connected to smart scientist like Arthur C. Clarke I would urge you to be more cautious before whitewashing someone. There are many well respected smart scientists who were later found to have committed despicable acts. For example, the Nobel prize winner: Daniel Carleton Gajdusek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Carleton_Gajdusek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Carleton_Gajdusek American physician and medical researcher who was the co-recipient (with Baruch S. Blumberg) of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1976 for work on kuru, the second human prion disease demonstrated to be infectious. In 1996, Gajdusek was charged with child molestation and after being convicted, spent 12 months in prison before entering a self-imposed exile in Europe, where he died a decade later.
- linuxkerneldev 10y ago> There are good and bad things in every country. He enjoyed his late life in Sri Lanka with rich culture and amazing climate. Hi Chanaka, I think you've misinterpreted my remarks. My comments are not intended to slight Sri Lanka or Sri Lankans at all. I am sure you are correct that Sri Lanka is amazing. What I'm pointing out is that developed countries need to carefully screen suspicious individuals including people like Mr Clarke from emigrating to developing countries to prevent horrific abuse from occurring as they have in the past.
- cjslep 10y agoPlease stop equating pedophiles with sexual predators. The American society has worked past the "black man sexual predator boogeyman" and the "gay man sexual predator boogeyman". (Well, kind of) Perpetuating this stereotype harms real people that are actively seeking help from therapists and other mental health institutions.
- BeetleB 10y ago>I did not see any reference saying he emigrated because of wanting to scuba dive. Then read up more about his life. There are multiple reasons he left the UK. He stated scuba diving in many of his works. Another potential reason was that he was gay, and the UK was not gay friendly at the time (reference Alan Turing).
