I bought a very economical "Prusa I3" clone, the Wanhao IIIP (re-branded and sold as "Maker Select" by Monoprice), and I have had nothing but excellent results. $310 shipped (3/2016). No problems with slicer settings or anything. There are just two important variables: extruder temp and bed temp. And finding those out is as easy as googling.
