Isn't it transpiler ? I think they trying hard to move away from python2 to go, but they had massive amount of code written in python2. I think your logic is not sound . If they wanted to use python2 (only with their own runtime which does not have GIL) instead of switching to go (eventually) they would write a runtime instead of transpiler ? Please correct me, I am not 100% sure.
