Stupid question: what kind of electronics do you need in a rocket launcher of this type?
- ainiriand 10y agoSound sensor and route calculator depending on proximity.
- pawadu 10y agoSorry, I am not a gun guy. Why a sound sensors? And is there any communication between the rocket and the launcher itself after it has been fired?
- deny_mdms 10y agoI think the main question is a boot time, hope it is not going to be "please wait 99%"
- shakna 10y agoThe article suggests that the rocket is sound-homing. Something that probably isn't a great idea, due to battlefield noise. Probably no communication with the launcher after firing, so that the shooter can get the hell out of there.
- celticninja 10y agoDoesn't seem to require ongoing communication after firing. The RPi is used to monitor the sound and redirect the rocket toward the loudest thing in the immediate environment(?). A helicopter that is close enough to be firing on you is going to be making quite a racket. I am assuming that sound is used because sound sensors are cheap and these are likely to be fire and forget type weapons.
- shakna 10y agoGuidance for the rocket, guidance for the shooter, and activation of the round. Rockets generally get activated by the force of their launch, somewhere about twenty meters from the launch position. Simple tech. Many just have a physical button on top, pushed down by the crazy speed. Guidance systems can be insanely complex. This however, appears to opt for two quite separate systems. As payload and launcher guidance is separate, the shooter can easily abandon the launcher to move quickly. The rocket can also home, correcting for a poorly aimed firing.
