Ask HN: Why technical interviews still suck in 2017?
Why do companies still need 5 to 10 mini technical rounds of 45 minutes each, talking about general CS stuff, giving random coding exercises, all involving crapy notepads or tiny white boards? Why do we have the least innovative process in the most innovative field? Why don't we just do these 2 things in one day:
1. Technical: one real coding assignment of a few hours, onsite.
2. Personality fit: a meeting with the whole team talking about general life stuff
- aashishkoirala 10y agoMy guess is inertia, plus people in charge of HR/hiring processes are probably not the best-in-tuned with how developers work. So they just copied whatever they heard MS or Google or FB did at one point and just adopted it blindly- and it is stuck like that because- again- inertia. I could be wrong, of course.
