- steveklabnik 16y agoFreshmeat and Google Code, but no GitHub?
- davidw 16y agoNot yet. It's still way too Ruby heavy to be a good source of information. I'll probably give it another year or two to let things even out and then throw it on, maybe with StackOverflow, which will hopefully undergo the same process of broadening out from their initial community of .Net people.
- danieldon 16y agoIt's still way too Ruby heavy to be a good source of information. However, since Ruby projects are overwhelmingly (almost exclusively) hosted on Github, excluding it suggests that Ruby is underrepresented.
- davidw 16y agoGoogle code search looks at github too, actually.
- steveklabnik 16y agoIt's actually much flatter than you'd think: http://github.com/languages http://github.com/languages
- davidw 16y agoRuby being more popular than anything else flies in the face of all the other metrics. There's no way it's more popular, in general, than PHP and Java, for instance.
- davidw 16y agoThanks:-) What's more, you'll never catch me making these silly statements about how Visual Forth ++ has surpassed ActionCobol 3.0 in April 2012 or things like that. I stand by my results and think they're broadly accurate, but it's silly to make statements like they do - "Ruby drops out of top 10" - because there's just too much fuzz involved. I guess it makes sense for them because it gets them lots of traffic:-/
