I sat right next to a really smart guy who was a hadoop administrator. Turns out he got a PhD in theoretical physics and did some graduate work at Fermilab. Holy crap...this run of the mill Hadoop administrator is some kind of physics genius. I asked him why....he said that his true love, particle physics, just didn't pay the bills like any random IT related job does. Which is a damn shame. PS: While we were talking, a dude one row over popped up and said he had a PhD in Chemistry or something.
