I'm probably one of the most critical people of the new AI-safety craze, but even I wonder if training AI on games like GTA is a good thing to do... if it is something I'd be hesitant to let my kids play, should we really be training our mechanical offspring on it?
- miguelrochefort 10y agoSurely you're not that naive.
- kobeya 10y agoWhat is naïve? OpenAI is not a domain specific company working on some limited application like self driving cars. They are interested in developing general intelligence. Unlike a racing game, GTA has non player characters (agents) that can be manipulated to accomplish goals. But the lessons learned in doing so are not things I would want to generalize or carry forward into future experiments. E.g. Maybe it learns that pedestrians made braking instruments in a tight turn.
- megablast 10y agoIt is not playing the game, it is using the game as a driving simulator.
- kobeya 10y agoIt's using the game as a driving simulator by playing it.
