"The shutter in an X700 is timed electronically and won't work without battery power" Wrong. It's a mechanical shutter and the only two things the battery is used for is auto film advance and exposure metering. Trying to tell me something about a camera I've owned for over 3 decades and have had apart almost as many times is very un-wise.
