The reason people perceive Flash as a CPU "hog" is because there are a lot of script kiddy flash programmers out there that will write the equivalent of an infinite loop in their banner add. I've been in the trenches and seen some of the horrible ActionScript code. The same thing can happen with bad javascript. Flash GUI tools tend to attract non-programmers so they can make pretty stuff. Too bad it does not tell them that they have just created something that will crash everyone else's browser. Maybe if Flash's run time encapsulated the Flash instances and made them behave, this would not be an issue.
