I used to work at Google as an engineer. Accessing user data in production systems was a fireable offense if you didn't have permission to do it, and permission was seldom given - you don't need actual user data to test stuff, since user-like data is sufficient.
Technically, it's possible to access it, bit no one person can do it without oversight.
- atomical 10y agoHas anyone ever been fired for doing it?
- NotSammyHagar 10y agoYes, absolutely. There was someone fired when I worked there for looking up personal info on people.

- leokennis 10y agoWith "technically it's possible", do you mean: * Anyone can access it but if it is monitored or found out afterwards, they're in trouble? * Or do you mean that after you ask permission, you get a privileged account or whatever and can then access the private info? Because if the first is the case, I have a "delete Google account" button to click before the end of the day...
- oppositelock 10y agoNo, you need special permissions to access it, and the barrier to getting these permissions is very high.
