Joke about blowing something up on Twitter, get arrested
- lukeqsee 16y agoUnfortunately in this day and age terrorism is very, very real. It is most definitely not a joking matter. Yes, it might seem to be overkill. However, overkill is much better than thousands dying because the joke was actually real.
- yan 16y agoThat's a slippery, slippery slope.
- lukeqsee 16y agoYou are right. Freedom of speech is hard to gauge in matters like this, really, really hard. (when is the "line" crossed, and what is the line?)
- DenisM 16y agoIs terrorism really any better or worse that any other time since world war two?
- lukeqsee 16y agoPossibly not the threat. In my limited experience (I'm a late teen) the reality of attacks are much more real. WTC Bombing. Oklahoma City. 9/11. Those all happened in my lifetime.
- DenisM 16y agoSo you are saying that most terrorism acts you remember happened in your lifetime. Could it be that you simply remember those which happened in your lifetime better than those that happened before?
- lukeqsee 16y agoLike I said, I have limited experience. I'm not aware of a cluster of terrorist attacks like that ever before. Correct me if I'm wrong. As a FWIW note, Wikipedia has 3 incidents between 1800-1899, 9 for 1900-1969, and markedly more after that (around 30-40, I didn't count). The world has changed. And/Or, reporting has changed. I'd go with the former.
- lutorm 16y agoAll of those happened in the US. This incident was in the UK and unless I'm mistaken the UK had a crapload of IRA bombings in the 80s and early 90s. It seems the UK is much, much calmer now.
- lukeqsee 16y agoYes. It is. I meant worldwide terrorism is the issue.
- lutorm 16y agoIt's worse now, because it's affecting Americans. </sarcasm>
