- tomr_stargazer 10y agoBriefly, and without an intent to shame or embarrass you - I think it's worth thinking more carefully about using (presumably male-centered) sexual language here, especially since the bookstore is named after a pioneering woman engineer.
- elliotec 10y agoWomen have wet dreams too.
- tomr_stargazer 10y agoI understand, but this is a pedantic reply that doesn't address the spirit of my comment. To be a little bit more explicit: sexual comments are one of the ways in which tech spaces are made less friendly to women.
- elliotec 10y agoWomen make sexual comments too. What makes it less friendly to women is singling them out by odd, completely off topic comments like these.
- jmcgough 10y agoI appreciate your wanting to make tech more inclusive, but I am a woman, and I don't need to be protected from comments that reference sex.
- sergiotapia 10y agoThank God you're here to police these threads otherwise women would sully their eyes with such filth! /tips fedora
- acchow 10y agoDo you think women don't enjoy and talk about sex?
- beachstartup 10y ago> without an intent to shame or embarrass you the entire point of language and thought policing is to shame and embarrass people. you are doublespeaking to an intelligent audience and it comes off creepy as hell. you sound brainwashed. also, this is basically lefty version of "i'm not a racist but..." nevermind you assumed gender, assumed it in the context of STEM (doubleplus ungood, comrade), assumed helplessness based on that gender, and assumed incorrectly that females do not have wet dreams/noctural emissions, all of which is pretty much the textbook definition of sexism, you sexist. most people call it whiteknighting because it's offensive, but just think it's normal because you live in a world where sexism is normalized.
- bogomipz 10y ago>"especially since the bookstore is named after a pioneering woman engineer." Wow this is quite creepy. You took something that on its face was not derogatory and created your own prurient association and then projected it onto someone else. I think maybe the only person you have shamed and embarrassed is yourself.
