Have any resources documenting this? I'd be curious to find the building blocks of an old empire in some modern skyscrapers.

And I suggest you to install Mosaic browser on Win7 32bit and try it out yourself - you will see how familiar almost everything is, if you know IE from everyday usage. Not just familiar, but also little things, traits and glitches are still in todays IE and Edge.
