- flukus 10y agoJust...How? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is nothing to remotely justify an app of that size is there? This is up there with the 300MB printer driver rubbish, but you'd expect facebook engineers to be more capable.
- xenadu02 10y agoYou don't get attention for re-using an existing framework but everyone will love you for reinventing a slightly better wheel. Every team does its own thing so there are many implementations of what amount to the same concepts.
- sidlls 10y agoActually I wouldn't expect that at all. These companies don't (seem to) hire engineers. They hire folks with academic CS backgrounds and put them in engineering roles, and generally they aim for younger such developers. This is like hiring undergrad and fresh graduate mathematicians to build a space shuttle. It's not a matter of competence or intelligence. It's a matter of ego and inexperience (engineering is an easily learned skill; all that matters is selecting the right data structures and algorithms from my CS [1-4]xx classes, etc.).
- voltagex_ 10y agoGet a hold of the .ipa (?) file and have a look - I wonder how much is custom frameworks and other stuff. For my uses, m.facebook.com in Chrome is adequate. I just wish they didn't force me to use Messenger for chat.
