The newer updates of MineCraft have gotten more RPG-y in that a semblance of a story has been included, alongside some other features like potions and experience/levels and a hunger bar. I've been out of the community for a while, but the updates have been somewhat controversial due to people missing/enjoying the sandboxy simplicity of the game; the new systems have added complexity that some believe doesn't really enhance the game. Minecraft was more of a social game for me anyways -shrugs-
