I agree with you in principle but there is kind of a logical problem as I see it. What does constitute probable cause for tax evasion? Should a tax man drive around with your recorded income and taxes and then make a values judgment based on you house, clothing and car? Being able to account for the contents of an account doesn't seem entirely unreasonable, I don't know what good alternatives are, just trust people to pay tax? I've been through tax examinations and it's not fun but what's a legitimate alternative?
