The Overton window. What sometimes looks to be a slippery slope argument is actually just the first person to see someone constructing the Overton window against them. I'm not saying slippery slope arguments aren't hideously overused, but it's deviously hard to explain to many people when their own mind is being used against them and not knowing what the Overton window is makes that even harder.
