The younger generations have also contributed to social progress.
We've created a lot of great music (but I'm sure it's not "music" to you).
And what have we achieved? You're on HN, you should be well aware.
- sergiosgc 10y agoYounger generations failed to vote. A capital sin, that led to Brexit and Trump. Two events that will lead to very good music (assuming that pain is the muse of great artists). So, not only you created great music, you created the conditions for even greater art.
- scottmf 10y agoBlaming the younger generations for Brexit and Trump? That's some talented mental gymnastics.
- sergiosgc 10y agoWhile youngsters did poll heavily towards "No" on Brexit, they neglected the need to actually go to the voting booth. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/24/young-remain-voters-came-out-in-force-but-were-outgunned https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/24/young-remai... The Trump election was way too close for a definitive cause to be definable. Anything can be assigned the position of straw that broke the camel's back. Anyhow, young voter turnout was much lower than for Obama, and that too can get the badge for cause, inasmuch as strong youngster presence at the voting booth would have prevented a Trump presidency.
- coldtea 10y ago>The younger generations have also contributed to social progress. Not as much, and mainly for causes already fashionable (gay marriage plays on national tv shows, most celebrities are in favor, and most states pass laws accepting it), so people just go with their peers on those. Not the same as with "stick your neck out" issues like gay rights in the 70s and 80s (baby boomers) and civil rights (again baby boomers). >We've created a lot of great music (but I'm sure it's not "music" to you). I'm not a baby boomer, so your "certainty" is misplaced. >And what have we achieved? You're on HN, you should be well aware. Social websites and Node.JS? Yeah, I'd rather stick with the Baby Boomer's Web 1.0 and Smalltalk, thank you.
