I like the assumption you make on the transmission factor. One can implement it fairly easily by replacing:
imgMasked = np.subtract(imgMasked, lineMask)
By the following lines:
lineMask = np.subtract(np.ones((height, width)), lineMask)
imgMasked = np.multiply(imgMasked, lineMask)
lineWeight is now equal to the k you propose.
