  I don't have facebook and with an Android phone I had a similar creepily tailored advertising experience (google?) Fun additional: a family member using facebook, when I had one, was getting ads of Amazon products I had recently watched

    It was really, really uncannily related to what we'd been talking about and a friend that I don't see updates from that often.

      Do you think your Friend was coerced into making the status update? Or do you think the status update was faked by facebook?

      As the sibling comment pointed out, the most unlikely aspects of the situation are that your friend posted on the topic and that the post coincided in time with your conversation. I'd say the fact that Facebook decided to show it to you at that point is the least unlikely part of the story.
