This seems like mostly hyperbole. Rust 1.15, which is a bit over a month or so away, is slated to have macros 1.1 which covers much of the need for compiler plugins. As I understand it macros 1.1 was in part prioritised by the Rust team so that users wouldn't have to use nightlies.
