The thing is, programming and managing people are professions that don't need any training that is difficult to get (unlike mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or medicine), don't need any special credentials (unlike law, medicine, or various sciences), and don't need manual skills nor physical force (unlike construction jobs), so the sole education is not a show-stopper for entering them. On the other hand, the professions you mentioned are not generally well paid or especially respected, even though they (most of them) are very important. A cynic could draw some conclusions about today's equality only working in one direction.
