I'm in that discovery phase myself. I've found that some things which sounded interesting were interesting sounding achievements, but not actually interesting for me to do. For some kinds of open source projects, I completed some work then my interest died; I spent some time in the midst of my 2nd or 3rd issue not getting to the work and feeling bad about it. So my suggestion is to just try different things out and see what you enjoy. Don't be afraid to put a project down and tell yourself it's okay.
