This resonates with me. I've definitely been discouraged over years of OSS work by people that are rude or expect free labor. However, I try to remind myself that these are the vocal minority. There are many people that are positive and help by contributing feedback, testing, answering other community members questions, and even submitting code to the various projects. OSS can be exhausting at times, but over my career I haven't found anything that is quite as rewarding. It feels great to have another developer use code I've written to help get their job done. And that's why I keep coming back to OSS.
