You can literally set the Touchbar to just show the function keys. I keep mine dynamic, have been using the laptop for a month now, and can say there has not been one occasion when the escape key wasn't there when i wanted it. And having TouchID sensor more than makes up for it. Of all you criticism not one has been a problem to me except battery life which is quite bad on mine.
