For instance, I was once told that the McDonald's franchisee was violating even McDonalds policy by keeping his coffee "even hotter"—because he liked it that way. And that one of the outcomes of the case was McDonalds removing the temperature control from their coffee machines to ensure consistency. I have no idea if that's true, but I suspect not.
